I, myself, don’t know that much about Irish poetry and prose other than the most famous plays of Beckett, John Millington Synge, Oscar Wilde and George Bernard Shaw. And even with them, I only have the shallowest understanding of their work. A copy of Ulysses and a book of poetry by Yeats have sat intimidatingly on my shelf virtually untouched for years. So, I’m using this week (short though it is) to do some exploration into the literary tradition of that land and find some texts that I can carry with me long after this week.
